Ascent Trip ReportWe had a little trouble finding Buttes Pass Road, as there is a sign going west, but not one going east. We turned around and saw the small sign. Once on the dirt road, we followed it to the end and found the parking lot full. Some of the sand is very soft in the lot and two passenger cars got stuck trying to drive through it. The trail starts at the back right of the lot and is fairly straight forward from there. Once on the trail, the hoards of people disappeared and we were the only ones on the trail throughout the hike. Most seemed to be there to explore The Slot. The trail is easily seen, but gets a tiny bit iffy through the rocks. There are trails joining the main trail, but on the way back, the main trail can been seen for quite a distance. Easy hike with a great 360 degree view from the peak. Didn't see a register from my seated position; there are many places one could be hidden. The area is extremely dry with no wildflowers, as most of the plants are almost dead--sad. SUPER windy blow-you-off-your-feet day. We were able to move faster between gusts.
