Ascent Trip Report

This state park, interesting hill, requires you to take a three hour tour of the lighthouse station. I arrived early at the entrance road for a 10am tour. The docent unlocks the gate and then you drive to a small parking lot at the base of the rock. The docent takes you on a long tour, but very informative. You are able to go into the lighthouse on the west side, below the summit. Then you able to get to near the top. You pay the $15 in the Visitor Center and gift shop. I paid and then snuck away to just past the restrooms, which are chemical booths. I went up the dirt path and took a picture near the water tower...which is the high ground. They run a tight ship there so you have to be a bit sneaky. I would imagine you could stealth this one if no one is there...but you are at your own risk. I would recommend the tour and look for an opportunity. The views are spectacular.
Follow on note: This is not the highpoint of the State Park, rather it is a great opportunity to obtain some good knowledge and hike up a unique point by the ocean. The actual HP is across the road at 822 ft. It is already loaded in PB, but I have not personally visited that HP. Thanks to David Sanger for his help with this state park.
