Ascent Trip Report

This will take a different approach tactic.

I drove to 8 different locations that all could have been an ingress point to one of the two spots. No way. Huge signs from BLM noting a year in prison or $100,000 fine for trespassing. Everywhere.

I need to communicate with the new superintendent; the old one got transferred unfortunately.

A possibility exists via homeowners up top off of Smith Grade Road, and I drove up but lots of Stay Away signs.

Another possibility is the large quarry SW of Bald Mtn a bit. I was at that gate, and two different workers drove up, jumped out, unlocked and re-locked, and drove in. I wasn't close enough to talk to them. I found out later that it is private, and not part of the Nat Mon land, barely.

No good way to even get close to the alternate location hill to the NW. I do believe that both need to be visited, no way to tell until you are on the ground where the liner lies.

Email me if you are interested or considering going.

BLM No Trespassing signs like this one are all over the place near both Cal Coastal Nat Mon HP candidates. I didn't have a spare $100K on me, so I opted to return again some day when I did... (2018-02-17). Photo by Dave Covill.
