Ascent Trip Report

A trail hike with short x-country/whack ... 5.4 miles, 2:30 hours RT.

The Lake Mineral Wells State Park Entrance is Hwy #180, abt 4.5 miles east of HWY JCT 281/180 in Mineral Wells. With the daily entrance fee you get a nice trail map for the good network of multi-use trails.

The furthest north TH Parking for the HP (which is due north of this TH) is on the west side of the Lake, 2 miles north of the Park Entrance. This is the TH Parking for the Primitive Camping Area.

I hiked the black/purple trail north 2 miles to a paved road, stayed north on the purple trail 150 yds to a fork (entrance to the Primitive Camping Area), where I stayed right (north) for 200 yds to a trail JCT in the camping area (32.86084,-98.02945).
I turned left on the unmarked small trail as it continues/winds/climbs a slope generally northerly 300 yds to the ridge plateau (32.86288,-98.02944). I went left (northwest) on a grass swath 300 yds to a N-S fence line (Park Boundary), which I followed north for another 300 yds to the HP area - large flat area, nothing obvious and no views. The woods to the east have some dense/thorny/nasty underbrush, animal paths aide the going.

They only thing I saw on-route was an armadillo.
