Ascent Trip ReportThis was my 9th visit to Magazine Mountain. It seems the "Family Factor" brings me back to many of the state highpoints over and over again. This time it was with my 10 year old grandson, Cypress, who now has six state highpoints. Although the weather was very overcast with clouds just barely above our heads, we had a pleasant hike and reached the summit in 11 minutes. The work by the Highpoints Club is very apparent on the summit and it is good to see no vandalism at all. When I climbed this highpoint for the first time on July 8, 1986, there was a trail, but the summit only supported a summit benchmark and nothing else. The popularity of state highpointing has caused improvements to many of the state's highest summits. |
