Ascent Trip ReportIt seems like there was much less snow than usual for this time of year, though there was still plenty starting about 1/2 mile up the trail til the top of the gondola on Lookout. I took the summer trail up, which proved to be fine. I elected not to bring snowshoes, and though they weren't necessary I could have used them getting up to Lookout. From there to the summit, all the snow was avoidable; I did bring crampons and an ice axe but never used them. Go figure! The view was excellent- White Sands was a treat to look at after having just gone the previous day. I think I could see Guadalupe and the Organ Mts too! Really nice peak and I'm glad the conditions were so favorable for a winter ascent.
The gondola was closed when I returned due to high wind. Got a nice boot ski in on the slopes and was still car-to-car in 4 hours!
