Ascent Trip Report

Starting from a neighborhood in Saratoga Springs (Stillwater Drive) around 1 pm, we ascended Israel Canyon. Though the temperature was only in the 30s or 40s, my coat quickly became too warm, as the sun was shining down brightly. Looking back, we kept seeing amazing views of Utah Lake; these only became blocked once we entered the canyon and began turning south. Shots could be heard frequently along the lower parts of the trail, but they faded as both the afternoon and the hike progressed. The higher up we got, the more forested it became. Eventually, the trail leveled out and we walked across a plateau-like area (surrounded by lower summits and towers) to get to the summit around 4 pm. While the exact highest point was fenced off, we got as close as legally possible. There were amazing views to the west, where Eagle Mountain and Flat Top were clearly visible, as well as to the north and south. We could also see the tops of the Wasatch Mountains to the east. It took us about 1.5 hours to get back down.
