Ascent Trip Report This was a solo hike of one HPS peak and 5 Peakbagger peaks. I decided I needed an day of hiking trails after Friday’s hike from Hell. I started at the Black Rock Campground. I started at the south end of the campground at a trail called West Side loop. I followed this trail to the Black Rock Canyon Trail. The Nature Center has some nice maps of the trails in the area. I followed the Black Rock trail to the junction with the Panorama Loop trial. I have done Warren 5 times but this is the first time doing this loop. It is well worth the extra miles (2 ½) and gain (600’). I highly recommend it if you have the time. The Peakbagger bump is just off the PL trail. There is a short use trail leading to the rocky summit. There was no register or BM on the summit.
From Panorama I continued down the PL trail to the Black Rock trail, turned left (west) and hike a short distance to a point northeast of 5005. There was a use trail that quickly faded out and it was cross country to the summit. There was no register or BM on the summit.
From 5005, I crossed country north down to Warren View. Again, there was no register or BM on the summit. From Warren, I crossed country northeast back to the Black Rock trail which I followed up to
Warren Point. On Warren, I found a register and BM. On Warren, I thought about doing 4627, but it meant dropping about 600’ down, then 200 up and 600’ up back to Warren. I decided it wasn’t worth it.
From Warren, I followed a well defined use trail towards 4842. There was a lot of steep down and up on this trail. About a third of a mile before 4842, the use trail crossed another trail going east/west. I continued northeast. The use trail was not as well defined but you could followed it.
From the summit of 4842, I continued to follow the use trail north past bump 4789. Just past 4789, the use trail turns left (north) and drops steeply down to the trail to South Park Peak. I missed the turn and had to back track. The to South splits, you can take the high road or the low road, they meet at the base of South. I took the high road. At the base (labeled Picnic Area on the topographic) the loop to South begins. I took it and came back to the picnic area and followed the road to the campground.
