Ascent Trip ReportMore or less 8 months after ACL surgery I managed to climb Uhuru Peak of Kibo (Kilimanjaro) via the Rongai route. A few thoughts: 1) There was a ton of snow, -11 °C at the top, quite unexpected. 2) Rongai route is not crowded!
3) Acclimatisation is not a priority on these routes or rather with the organised tours: if you haven't climbed a high mountain before, do yourself a favour and start with another one! Or do a super long route like Lemosho 9 day. 4) I was the only one from my group (2 Dutch guys, young and fit) who made it to the top, precisely because of lack of acclimatisation (both were very sick at the Kibo hut at 4700m and could not continue!) 5) Luckily, I didn't have any problems this time, made it to Gilman's Point without any symptoms and only had a light headache for the last 200 m.
