Ascent Trip ReportThis County has 3 candidate high point areas. I followed the directions in Hans Haustein TR which are still good, except in the case of AREA 3 - my findings were completely different and the reason for this TR. I have nothing to add for the other 2 Areas. One must read Hans.
From JCT Hwy #425/Lavender Road we went east on Lavender for .3 miles, where Lavender makes a right turn and continues south for .2 miles to a left turn (east). There are 2 dirt roads that leave this corner, one heads south and the other southwest (right) along a power line. We drove southwest for 150 yds to a trailer house and found no one home (this is the house where Hans got his permission). The other trailer referred-to in Hans' report is no longer there.
The house sits on a northeast/southwest ridge with a 400 foot closed contour. The PB coordinates (33.87633,-91.84817) for the HP puts the spot at 75 yds northeast of the house in a 410 foot contour. It's very obvious that this spot is much lower than the house and therefore the 410 contour is non-existent. Also, obvious higher ground can be seen behind (southwest) of the house.
After checking out the length of the ridge ( with some nasty thorny brush in places) I chose my HP at a large tree abt 140 yds southwest of the house at GPS 33.87534,-91.85001.
The easiest way to this spot from the house is to follow the power line and look for the HP on the right, just inside the woods.
If my findings are correct (that's to say - no 410 foot contour) then this Area 3 is not a candidate.
