Ascent Trip Report

Drove in via FS 382 from the east where I had just completed the Leaf Wilderness HP.

I overthought this one in planning and made it way more difficult than necessary. After reviewing aerial imagery and topos, I judged the wilderness HP as likely being in the woods northwest of the driveway marked with the J. Alfred #345 mailbox , having assumed the driveway was private property and the wilderness boundary would need to be on the drive's northwest side. As such, I made my approach through the dense woods west of the drive until reaching its edge. But the coords were still pinned further to the southeast, so I continued across the driveway to the woodline along the drive's southeastern side where the coordinates finally settled in on the HP.

So I'd recommend you save your energy, avoid a bushwack, and just walk in via the driveway. The gate close to the house, northeast of the posted coordinates, is posted but not the driveway itself, giving me the impression that the drive is actually a short easement accessing the house, rather than a private drive. I walked out via the driveway to my vehicle parked along FS 382, then headed west to Hwy 29 and a southwestward meandering route back towards Baton Rouge.
