Ascent Trip ReportBroke trail (fresh 1.5 - 3 feet of snow) up to Welch when we came across a skier. We used part of their ski tracks and adjusted back to normal hiking path when the skier veered off trail. It was a very nice day to break trail as the weather was nice. A bit windy at times.
The parking lot was unplowed when we arrived. We were the first to break fresh snow in the parking lot. We snowshoes the entire loop. Snow was anywhere between 1/2 foot deep to 3 feet deep in some spots. The rock ledges were completely unbroken and about 1.5 feet deep of fresh snow. By the time we got back to the parking lot we saw the plow still clearing the lot and only a couple of cars in the lot besides ours. Didn't come across a lot of people (only the skier, and two other groups going Clockwise).
Overall a great trip and fun to break trail on welch-dickey. Definitely will attempt to time it like this next time it snows.
