Ascent Trip ReportAfter spending Thanksgiving with my wife's family at their house in Lake Placid, we (my wife, her father, the dogs and I) went for a short hike to burn off a few of those extra calories from the pies the night before. The first half of the trail is almost straight as an arrow as it makes its way on a nice wide path towards a small pond/marsh area. I can recall from doing this hike a few years ago in the summer trying to navigate my way through here with water up to my calves. I was hopeful that today would be considerably drier and easier. Well, it was dryer for sure. Still swampy, but there were ways to make your way through without too much mess. Beyond this is where most of the elevation gain comes in and the trail gets rocky and picks its way East towards the summit. It was very bright this day, so pictures taken weren't the best, but we did spend some time sitting in the woods on the summit having lunch and staying out of the wind. There was a bit of snow, but not too much. Just an inch or two as we got higher up. Bare boots the whole way up and microspikes on the way down just for some added traction. Next time I do this hike, I would really like to make my way over the summit and down to the old Olympic bobsled run.
