Ascent Trip ReportI met Glenn at our meeting location at 5:00 AM and he drove to the TH. We started hiking at 6:20 AM. The route is very steep and most of it is up a wash. The wash makes the climbing easier than scree, but it was steep nonetheless. We reached the saddle and that’s when Glenn told me about having to give up altitude. There is a narrow saddle between a high cliff on the right side and the trail to Mummy's Nose on the left side. After that one gives up some altitude following south of another cliff until making the climb up toward the summit.
We made it to the summit at 9:00 AM and signed the register.
On the return I felt good enough that as we approached the narrow saddle I asked if he would mind if I climbed the nose too. He said he would go on and wait for me where he stashed water. I hadn't looked an previous reports on the trail to the nose so I was a little surprised to see the narrow chute to climb through. To me it is a scary chute and I worried about how I would descend it. I pressed on a reached the summit about 20 minutes after climbing out of the chute. I signed the register and took photos.
I made my way back to the chute and there was a wall ledge that, while exposed, dropped me into the chute below the area I was concerned about. I caught up with Glenn before his stash of water and we hiked out together. We were back at his car around 2:00 PM.
