Ascent Trip ReportI was reading about Crescent Peak, but there were a lot of comments about the private property so I looked at Hart Peak that is in the vicinity. Lola and I left at 8:30 AM and drove to Searchlight. On 164 westbound I turned left onto Walking Box Ranch Road. The road was once paved, but now is a dirt road that is semi maintained. There were the remnants of the paved road signs still posted 36 mph, but those were just a cruel joke. The road was filled with wash board bumps on steroids. I think I averaged 13 mph. Nonetheless at 12.6 miles I turned onto a 4x4 road #142 and took it 0.6 miles until I stopped. I probably could have made it much further, but no reason to get stuck in sand.
I started hiking at 10:30 AM and headed straight across the desert for the mountain’s south saddle. I made great time and started up the ascent, crossing over a cool granite feature where there was lots of traction. Once I made it to the saddle, I had selected a route up the easy rock scramble. The climb was not hard at all and there were no issues with route finding. I were on the summit at 11:45 AM.
On the summit there are two USGS markers and a register. The register started in 1951 and was signed by a lot of people with 1971 seeming to be one of the busiest years. The last couple years there we just a few names in the register; I added me a Lola to the list of names. Lola and I departed the summit at 12:00. I made great time, and easy work of the descent, and was back at the truck at 12:30 PM. I was back home around 4:00 PM.
