Ascent Trip ReportI had never given the Ireteba Peaks any thought until I read a post by John Fedak. His post intrigued me and at this time of year the mountains in the Mohave Desert aren't too hot to hike.
Lola and I departed the house around 8:30 AM to hike the Ireteba Peaks. Getting there was really easy,Hwy 95 south of Boulder City to MM 28, then turn left onto a decent dirt road for 2.7 miles, then left along the power line road for 0.7 miles (unfortunately I turned at 0.6 miles and ended up walking a little more for the hike). I also stopped short as the road became washed out too much for my truck. I started hiking at 9:50 AM.
The first 45 minutes of hiking was up the wash to the base of the mountain, and then I picked up and followed a course to the right side of Bard Peak. This is the peak on the far south side. I reached the summit of Bard Peak at 11:50 AM, found a register and signed it. Then I walked along the ridge to an unnamed peak, I could not find a register, but took a few pictures and then walked to the third small peak. At this point I wasn’t sure if I wanted to keep going to the next peak or head to the truck. I chose to head to the truck, it was 1:30 PM and since I had no flashlight and was going to find my way (no trails) it seemed like the better choice.
The route I took going down was straight down from the third summit into a wash and then toward the truck. I made great time and was back at the truck around 2:30 PM. I would never guessed I would have gone that fast. I was back at the house at 3:30 PM.
