Ascent Trip ReportAlarm started at 4am. We discovered Ben had cancelled. Ami and I met tag at the wilton hannaford and headed out to sundown, about 3 hours away. Interesting sights on the way on. The tragedies started mounting on this hike: forgotten sandwiches realized by me 1/3 mi in. ami sinking a boot thru a snow bridge into a stream. me sinking a boot into a stream thru a snow bridge. tag sinking a bot in mud. the gps stops working 2 miles in. despite this, spirits for adventure remained high. lots of debate over how to calculate elevation gain and whether it can be different if you reverse direction of a loop hike. olive's sandwiche's hossed at the base of Rocky after a lon long walk along the neversink never quite sure where i was and where we should start going up to the right. hiking up rocky seemed fairly short after all that, if a lot more strenuous. but the true test came in pushing through to the col and over to Lone. Some of the densest vegetation I have ever seen. Hard to find a way around it, both young pines and more mature ones... the end of the col and start of Lone offered ledges and cliffs. The climb up Lone was relatively short but effortful as we went up a steep way at tag's urging. I wanted to just get down and was a bit hasty taking us more north and east than the west we needed, but we quickly corrected course and made best use of our steep descent. The terrain was broken and steep, easy to fall on hidden rocks and logs, but we got down fine. The walk back along the neversink still seemed brutally long even with the extra distance between lone and rocky cut off. the sun went down and the headlamps went on. the death march mercifully ended and the feelings of exhiliration and accomplishment set in slowly...
