Ascent Trip ReportNice not too bad up N Dome, though it is decieving, summit hides and there are multiple bumps and flat parts. This time we came from the parking lot just after the horse farm, which I suppose is the N Dome parking lot.
We went right up N Dome and came across an old woods road for a short ways. Everyone wore snowshoes but it was a few inches of snow so I managed to persuade 3 others (Ami, Tag, AJ) into wearing just spikes, and it was much easier to navigate the uneven bushwhacky terrain that way. It was a very sunny, warm day. Ami had terrible stomach upset from drinking coffee from a travel mug whose lid was full of dish soap. She thought it was my tea! My tea felt insulted. BTW Tag rode down with us in Ami's car, I drove. The stomach upset passed without any diarrhea or vomiting, just some farting which ami said smelled really bad. She stayed in back for this part of the hike - so nice. After bushwhacking over 4 or so bumps/flat parts, we approach the summit zone
of North dome, heavily wooded. The snow even up here was less than a foot deep although we were cornholding a bit more, nothing bad. We had some d'andrea's BBQ chix pizza and some JJ white broc garlic pizza. The hot water continued to work well soothing ami's stomach and everyone's nerves. Feeling a bit cold and wet on N Dome, we packed up and descended to the pass of Sherrill after 2 group shots. This descent went pretty quickly and soon we were on Sherrill, pulling apart a few melted together reeses' pieces for a quick snack (those nalgenes really stay hot! my pizza was warm on n dome!) Sherrill was very steep and there were a few ledges to navigate around. It took a while and some breat effort, but we all made it at the same time. The hike went at a good pace. Soon we were in Sherrill's summit zone and tracking down that canister. We had some hot tea and water, yum. Some more group shots, and we were descending Sherrill. It felt like this took a while, my feet had sort of seen enough and there was a few face whips and some thorny stuff, a couple very mild falls. The snow was getting very wet by the time we had left north dome and forming snowballs under the spikes. These got a bit unwieldy but it wasnt bad. When we got to the waterfall I took the spikes off but this proved unwise as we had to cross the steam and I got one foot pretty wet, not too swampy. Finally we passed the field and were back to the road. A mile road walk back to the car, casual, talking to the horses, and we were driving again. A great day, great hike, nowhere near as tough on us as i;d thought it;d be
