Ascent Trip Report

Parked at the Paso Picacho campground off of SR 79. Parking day pass is now $10. I decided to get my fill by doing 4 hikes with three peaks with over 800 feet of prominence. I selected the quickest way up which is the semi paved lookout road. This hike has a lot of burned out territory from a devastating fire in 2003. So the terrain is now overgrown with shrubs that obscure much of the hike. Finally, up near the top there are some impressive huge trees that survived (incense cedar, white fir, and sugar pine). The California Black Oak, Inland Live Oak, and Coastal Oak were observed along the way. Clutter at the summit. Great views at the top but it is a bit boring on the way up. But the nearly 3000 feet of prominence on this peak does provide some impressive views.
