Ascent Trip Report

Driving back from hiking up Crosier and I saw a sign for the Lumpy Ridge Trailhead in RMNP. Remembering I backpacked up the this ridge with the guys once, I popped in to see if I remembered the area. The peakbagging application showed a registered peak very close to the parking so I thought I would run up it for fun. I was not disappointed. This area is filled with fun scrambling everywhere. Right at the gate past the parking lot I saw a use trail up to what I thought was this small peak. It was barricaded at the top. I immediately found some class 3 and scrambled up. The first two pinnacles were challenging. I made the top of one but the other required mid class 5. Then I realized the peak was further back and I attempted it up the south side and two creases were there both class 3+ with some exposure and my Salmon boots could not smear the granite. The issue was they were wet from the snow and in general these non-viberam soles are horrible they simply to not stick to steep slabs. They are dangerous on steep slope scrambles. I made several attempts and headed around to the east and cliffed out.

Then I headed down and to the west side and found easy class 2 to 2+ slabs perfect for my boots and found the top and enjoyed very impressive views. This area is a playground of scrambling in the area. I enjoyed some class 2 and 3 rock for awhile and headed north and bushwhacked back down to the main trail and then headed back up hill and over the saddle and then back to the parking lot.

This would be a fun place to come back and explore the granite formations when I have more time.
