Ascent Trip Report

Returned to Black Rock Mainline Road from Laurel Mountain access road. Continued driving on Black Rock Mainline Road (road is in good condition) until I reached a closed gate. Retreated back about 300' and took a spur road up to an open area just east of the high point ridge. Walked to the left of the ridge and bore left up through the trees to reach the high point. There is a summit register in a glass jar covered by a red can in the rocks. There was about four inches of snow on the ground.

Encountered three or four log trucks, a couple of pick-ups and a road grader; all in spots where it was easy to get by. It could be very interesting in much of the route as the roads are narrow in many areas. I had a CB radio and monitored channel 10. I heard some chatter, but not sure as how you would actually communicate with the loggers about your location.

Saw a large (20-30) herd of elk on the road up.
