Ascent Trip ReportQuick after work stroll on a picture perfect PNW evening. I am very bummed about the time change as it will limit my after work MTB and hiking adventures... I followed the Pass Lake Loop Trail in a clockwise direction, cutting off the trail right where it re-enters the park from a clear cut area on the NW corner of my route. There is a small steep gully to drop into and climb back out of to get to the easier slopes leading up to the summit. Other than this short brushy and steep section, the off trail hiking was easy and enjoyable. I also went to the western high point contender just in case. It is a closed contour of the same elevation. With the fading light I couldn’t determine which was higher. I was able to get back to the trail before needing to pull out the headlamp. The rest of the loop was pleasant trail but likely nicer with some light to see the scenery.
