Ascent Trip Report

There is a lot of up and down on this hike, some that may be avoided by sidehilling. Although just 1260 net feet of difference between the summit and the parking area near the 5960-foot pass on Duquesne Road, expect to gain more than twice this figure when all the ups and downs are included. Not only must Veteran's Peak be climbed (you get a bonus peak), there are many bumps along the ridge that require 50-100 feet of up and down.

The hike is easy but tedious and scratchy. The trails help but are often overgrown, crossed by migrant paths that go everywhere. The area around Veteran's Peak is the toughest, with lots of rock and heavy brush.

We saw lots of evidence of past migrants coming through here but never saw any people.
