Ascent Trip Report

A great day out in the western Cascade foothills in the snow. Free parking across the street from the Cedar Falls TH in the Rattlesnake parking lot. Discovery Pass required for Cedar Falls TH and we didn't have ours in this car today... We started the hike on the John Wayne Trail and turned on to the Cedar Butte Trail. Thankfully, as we ascended we soon were out of the light rain and into the snow. There is a trail junction about 1/3 of the way up. We stayed left on the steeper ascent, with the intent of returning on the other trail. There is a higher trail junction where we turned left towards the summit. The summit likely has a nice view in one direction on a better weather day, but today was snowing. We hung out on the summit for quite a while and took a handful of great photos to honor the 1937 spelling of this peak: Ceder Butt. The kids played with snow while we enjoyed the summit. The descent was fun with Becca and I dodging snowballs and then chasing naughty boys down the trail trying to cover them in snow. I managed to get Sage right under a fully loaded pine branch and shake it all over him! We took the descent option towards the Blowout. This makes for a fine loop on this easy less-than-half-day outing. We are now 2/3 finished with the obscure "Blob Pin" created by Harvey Manning and Ira Spring back in 1991 for those peaks that can be hiked when real mountains just won't do... Pics
