Ascent Trip Report

Rarely-climbed Peak 8410 lies on Mokelumne Wilderness's eastern boundary. Nothing too exciting here, but it got my attention as one of a handful of MW peaks listed in the Peakbagger.com database that I had yet to visit.

From Highway 4, I drove up FR 113, an abandoned mining road, about half a mile before it became blocked by boulders and deadfall. The 4X4 road is reasonably good to that point, although considerably narrowed by brush and erosion. I was concerned both for my car's paint and that I might end up backing down, but fortunately my Forester suffered no obvious scratches and, most importantly, there was just enough room to turn around and park on the edge of IXL Canyon.

After setting the parking brake (firmly), I followed the old road bed up the canyon until the brush became thick. (I learned on the descent that it's better to bushwhack a little farther before turning for the saddle between 8410 and IXL.) After reaching the saddle, I made the easy stroll over to 8410 and took in the fine views before retracing my steps.
