Ascent Trip ReportThis late season trip turned out perfect. The weather was awesome; after the pre-dawn chill, I was peeling layers as the sun came up. Thoroughly enjoyed the Grandview Campground and the sky-full view of the stars from the basin in which it sits. It was about an hour from there to the trailhead (locked gate). No one was there when I took off at dawn (about 7 am). Indeed, saw no one all day except for one nice young man ascending as I was coming down. The research station was shuttered up for the winter. Inferring from other posts, there can be quite a crowd up there in the summer, so it was exceptional to hike across that interesting landscape solo. The Patriach and Schulman Groves are not to be missed if coming to this area. From other accounts, I worried about the road conditions, but hey, coming from Nevada, they were nothing to be concerned about. Just don't go too fast and/or let some air out of the tires. Many thanks to my support crew of Barry, Abby, and Gibbs.
