Ascent of Speckled Mountain on 2017-10-28
|Date:||Saturday, October 28, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||2906 ft / 885 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI hiked Speckled Mtn, going up the Blueberry Ridge Trail and down the Bickford Brook Trail. Also did the short Bickford Slides and Blueberry Mountain side-loops.
The Bickford Brook crossing was tricky, with the water running high following a few straight days of rain earlier in the week. The waterfalls were flowing at high volume, so the Bickford Slides loop was a nice add-on for today. The Slides trail wasn't always easy to follow, but arrows on trees helped at a couple of spots where it would be easy to go wrong.
There are plenty of good views of the Royces, Baldfaces and Carters from the Blueberry Ridge Trail. Great panoramic view into Maine from the summit of Speckled Mtn. Not as many views from the Bickford Brook Trail, but the footing is generally pretty good, and you can make good time if you wish.
