Ascent Trip ReportCCW Loop Hike on trails, herd paths, and bushwack over 3 summits .. 2.4km, 180 meter gain, 1:20 hrs RT.
For this second hike of the day in the Laurentiens I did a loop hike over 3 small hills (all with short hikes). This whole area has a large network of signed xcountry trails.
From AutoRoute 15 exit 86, we went south on #117 for 5.1km to a left turn on Rue de L'Eglise (Val David), 2.1km north turned right on Rue du Mont Cesaire, .5km east road makes a right turn (straight ahead a new driveway heads east to a house under construction), we parked here.
I walked east on the new driveway 50 meters and found a trail on the right that enters the woods and climbs southeast a short distance to a xcountry trail JCT, where an old ski run #9 (with herd path) continues/climbs very steeply southeast 350 meters to the summit of MONT PLANTE (46.03963,-74.19006, elev 1500') - obvious a large rock outcrop capped with the remains of the steel structure of a ski lift station, some views. A number of trails come up from different directions.
I bushwacked/descended south 100 meters to the col with Mont Cesaire, where xcountry trails head in different directions. I picked-up a ski trail that continues/climbs south 200 meters to the summit of MONT CESAIRE (46.03787,-74.19142) - obvious to one side of at a large erratic rock, added a rock cairn, no views. On the way up I past the sign "Park Regional de Val David-Val Morin". The ski trail continues to the south.
I backtracked to the Cesaire/Plante col and picked up ski trail #15 eastbound for 200 meters to the boggy Plante/Therien col, then bushwacked west 300 meters to the wooded summit of MONT THERIEN - SUD-OUEST (46.03953,-74.18539, elev 1500') - obvious at 2 small erratic rocks with a rock cairn, limited views.
I backtracked to the col, then descended steeply on ski trail #9 (north then west) .7km to the TH.
After this hike we visited 3 other small peaks before stopping in at Saint Adele to do some shopping. On the drive home we again stopped at 5 guys (A5, exit 41) for Cajun-spiced fries.
This may be this year's last autumn trip to the Laurentians.
