Ascent Trip ReportA bushwack and trail hike eastbound to 2 peaks ... 3km, 160 meter gain, 1:30 hours RT.
Rose and I are back to the Laurentiens for an overnight trip. Today we took-in a bunch of small hills with just a drive-up or little hiking to speak of, perhaps the best for views was Le Pain de Sucre (a road walk on an old ski hill). The most involved as a far as hiking goes was Les Jumelles all as reported here.
LES JUMELLES that's in the Peakbagger Library is the main peak inside a large 300 meter closed contour which has a few other sub-peaks. I found out in the hike that the west sub peak offers perhaps the best views of all and merits to be in the PB Library, so I added LES JUMELLES-OUEST as provisional.
This TR covers my hike to both peaks. The route that I took is perhaps the shortest for the 2 peaks.
From Mont Tremblant, Round-About at Montee Ryan/Hwy #327 with tourist office on corner, we went south on 327 for 2.5km to a left turn on Chemin Wheeler, .8km east turned right on Croissant des Soleils, .2km south (staying left at fork) parked at small parking area. This was my TH (46.16079,-74.57453), the HPs are to the east.
I bushwacked/climbed steeply east 250 meters to a Lookout on top of a vertical rock face. A wide trail comes up from the southeast side to this super Lookout which offers great views to the northwest over Lac Ouimet.
After taking in the view I went southeast on the trail for 150 meters to just over its crest at the ridge, where I bushwacked left (east) 100 meters to the obvious HP for LES JUMELLES-OUEST (46.16087,-74.56992). Views through the trees.
This is a very nice interesting area so I added this peak to the PB Library as provisional.
I backtracked to the trail and continued/descended southeast another 200 meters to a main trail JCT - right descends south, I went left (north) descending 200 meters to the col between the 2 peaks, where I bushwacked/climbed moderately east (a few short rough steep sections on-route) .6km to the obvious main HP of LES JUMELLES (46.16314,-74.56252) with little views through the trees this time of year.
I backtracked the 1.4km to the TH in 30 minutes.
I should note that the satellite imagery shows a trail coming up from the south to the main trail JCT (noted above) from Rang 8. Perhaps another route.
The leaves have all but fallen, winter is just around the corner.
