Ascent Trip ReportAt 5:55am we set off from a dirt lot short of the Lake Edison vista point, which is marked as the start of the Bear Ridge Cutoff Trail on the USGS map. We zigzagged up the slope through the bushes and trees for 45 minutes until we found the trail. We reached Lake 10,640ft+ around 9:40am, and we went southwest up the ridge, wrapping to the backside at around 11,000ft. It was easy travel to the flat sandy spot. From there we descended a bit to avoid some steep cliffs on the arete, passing under a heart-shaped slab. We then gained the ridge and ascended the arete over seemingly endless talus and boulders to the summit. I reached the summit at 12:35pm with Dan arriving about ten minutes later. The views from the top were spectacular; highlights included Ritter/Banner, Red Slate, Red and White, Abbot, Gabb, Hilgard, Gemini, Seven Gables, Senger, and Hooper. After a little over a half an hour we descended, reaching the lake at 3:10pm. We refilled our water and were back at the car at 6:05pm. It turned out that the trailhead was next to the vista point, but it was a short walk back to the dirt lot. We didn't see any other parties the entire trip.
Stats: 6h40m up, 35m at summit, 4h55m down, ~19 miles.
