Ascent Trip Report

i've wanted to bag san gorgonio for ages, but i couldn't ever commit to permits far ahead of time. a few weeks back i noticed that the website now says "no quotas for day hikes", and furthermore that day hikes didn't even require a permit! perhaps it's because it's off season, or perhaps it's because all the trails have re-opened? either way i was pretty happy when i looked a the weather on wednesday and saw a nice clear sky weekend, with temperatures in the 50s a the summit. so i booked a flight.

i was bummed on friday when the national weather service put up a red flag warning on the mountain: fire danger. with the on-going fires in napa+sonoma i was pretty nervous about the warning, so i changed my plans to go for san gorgonio on sunday, when the red flag warning would end at noon. on sunday morning, just to play it safe i went into the san gorgonio wilderness association office at 8am and asked for a permit, and they gave me one without any questions. i didn't want to tempt fate by inquiring about the red flag warning :)

no issues.
