Ascent of Kettle Benchmark on 2017-10-08
|Date:||Sunday, October 8, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Motorized Transport to Trailhead:||4x4 Vehicle|
| Elevation:||7840 ft / 2389 m|
Ascent Trip ReportWe followed Dan Baxter’s directions, and in retrospect I drove a little too far, even with my 4WD Forester. The last road is very rocky and I bottomed out once. We saw a much larger truck drive the road even higher, so it can be done. We walked the last half mile.
The wind was fierce, probably 25 mph and gusty, and since it was already 40 degrees out, we were quite cold. There is new-looking communications equipment at the top that seems to have replaced any remnants of a lookout that was once here. We found the benchmark inside a painted circle and spray-painted silver.
