Ascent Trip Report

From the mouth of South Jackson Canyon, followed the ridge north of Lawson Canyon directly to the benchmark at the summit. Found the register placed by Andrew and David, with two entries since Nov 2016. The most recent advises "Private Property, No Hunting, 9/21/17". As I had no intention of hunting, I believe I complied with the terms of access.

From there, I headed north on the ridge road to Jackson Mountain, followed it too far downhill as it veered east toward Strode Canyon, until I saw that it was not going back up again. At the junction of the ridge road and a road heading west, the route becomes a use trail along Cortina Ridge. Returning from Jackson Mountain, I followed the west road as it descended the third ridge north of the ascent ridge. Private property signs were posted along the way and I could see semi-recent tire tracks. Unauthorized hunting may be a problem here. The road ends around 1800' and a use trail continues down to a short section of road that ends abruptly at a side creek. After a short bushwhack through poison oak, deer trails lead to South Jackson Canyon road, which runs south to the ascent ridge.
