Ascent Trip ReportComing from the north on the PCT, take the use trail shortly after point 6835 and work your way up the rocky spur ridge, negotiating several volcanic outcroppings on the way. Head for the saddle between the two summits. Some bushwhacking is inevitable, but can be minimized by staying to the right (east).
We climbed the east summit because it's the highpoint shown on the topo with a spot elevation of 7058. It is also the one listed on LoJ. A class 2-3 slot featuring good volcanic rock takes you to the top. We didn't find a register or benchmark.
From the east summit, the west summit looks just as high, if not higher, and, as I had learned from Jerry Kohn, sports a benchmark reading "7053." Peakbagger shows the west summit as being the highpoint and gives the elevation as 7063. So it's all a little mysterious but, any way you look at it, Eagle Rocks is a fine scramble located just off the PCT.
The attached GPX track includes Cub-Butt and Humboldt and ends on the east summit of Eagle Rocks, where my GPX apparently got bumped and turned itself off.
