Ascent Trip ReportCastle Trail in Bowman to Cornice - Gulfside - Lowes - Spur- Gray Knob - Perch - Emerald - Israel Ridge - Castle - 8hrs. started off cool and progressively more frozen - but light breeze, bright sun and beautiful ice formations on vegetation. Not your normal rime but clear as glass. put on microspikes after 2nd castle and made a huge difference esp. on cornice and coming down from the junction. wanted to hit Sam Adams but not enough time. Took off spikes on way down from Crag then ran into some rocks still frosted in the shade and tops of trees melting dripping on rocks and freezing. Worn out boots made for an interesting descent. Next time leave the spikes on. |
