Ascent Trip ReportI climbed the two summits on my way back to Minaret Summit from San Joaquin Mountain. The east summit is a walk-up, but the west summit requires a scramble. Admittedly I showed up without any information aside from the fact that it should be class 3. I spent about fifteen minutes wandering around the summit block, finding various chutes that appeared to be class 3 but were a little beyond my comfort zone. The northern aspects had about an inch of snow at the base to contend with. Making a final pass before giving up, I found a large crack in the face with small footholds below it that I had somehow missed before, which allowed me to hoist myself onto the ledge above. After about ten more feet of exposed scrambling I walked to the high point. The side trip took me about 35 minutes.
