Ascent Trip Report

Wood Benchmark is a delightful peak pretty close to the I15 at the Utah/Idaho border. I took exit 3 on the I15 on the Idaho side and headed west to Gardner Canyon. The road going up the canyon is good as long as it is dry. When I went I could tell that there was significant damage from vehicles driving through when the road was wet and muddy. However, I was lucky because several vehicles had gone through while it was dry and flattened a lot of the ruts. The road gets worse as it gets higher, but I handled it all fine in a RAV4. I didn't even need 4WD. I stopped at a saddle at around 7400. The road keeps going on, but it gets rough and steep after this saddle, so I decided to hike the rest of the way. The views were awesome. I made it right in time for the sunset. The Great Salt Lake is visible from the summit.
