Ascent Trip Report

We started hiking on the trail beyond the closed gate. We went too far on the trail, but eventually cut up a gully until we hit a use trail, which took us to the peak. On the way, back, we took the use trail, then cut down a gully and back to the main trail. We managed to make a 3 mile hike with 800 feet of gain into a 5 mile hike with 1,300 feet of gain. It is very loose and steep in sections. The pole on the peak is a large telephone pole--perhaps a radio tower of some sort? We found the register in a red coffee can in the middle rock pile.
