Ascent Trip Report

Bonaparte is a pleasant mountain with excellent views from the summit. The lookout tower also has some character. It's quite easy to get to the upper trailhead. Google maps can even take you there.

The trail is an ATV road that climbs aggressively to the summit. I ran into a pair of Canadians descending on dirt bikes, who had turned around due to too much snow. The snow line started right at the turnoff for the spring and by the summit was a few inches deep. Due to the amount of snow I decided to descend cross country and skip some of the switchbacks. However, before I knew it I was following the tracks left in the snow of a rather substantial bear. So, I opted to stick closer to the trail for the rest of the descent just in case.
