Ascent Trip ReportThis peak is a drive up that has a fire lookout which is still manned. No one was around when I showed up, but they had not yet boarded up for the winter.
The primary access road to this peak is BIA-67. It's a decent road, maybe a little rough in some sections. It would definitely be possible to get a low clearance vehicle to the top, but I think it would be a pretty poor idea. Help is quite a ways away. I was unable to follow the summitpost directions, namely I did not see anything to veer left toward at 23.5 mi along Columbia River Road except for a private ranch road, which was posted.
I found two good ways to get to BIA-67. To get close, Columbia River Road is definitely the way to go. It is paved the entire way between Omak and Nespelem. On the ascent, I took Cold Springs Road, which almost immediately goes past a substation before it turns east into Old Omak Lake Road running essentially parallel to Columbia River Road. After about 4 mi, BIA-67 is on the left. On the descent, I took Old Omak Lake Road further east. It turns out that this is the primary artery and dumps back into Columbia River Road via Whitmore Lookout Road. There is a sign pointing to the lookout from the intersection at Columbia River Road, and I would marginally recommend this route over the other.
