Ascent Trip ReportAfter returning to the Black Mountain Crest Trail from the bushwhack to the summit of Cattail Peak, we followed it to Potato Hill. The top of this "hill" is marked by a benchmark on the left (when northbound... i.e., the west) side of the trail. The trail continued to be steep and rocky in sections, with some minimal scrambling required, but it's not hard to follow. Orange (sometimes faded to yellow) blazes are obvious along the way. After reaching Potato Hill we had to decide whether to return to the parking lot or make the significant extra effort to visit Winter Star Mountain on the other side of Deep Gap. We'd made good time to this point and the weather was fine, so we went for it.
