Ascent Trip Report

I started my descent from Langley at 10:30am. I dropped off the east side of the summit ridge, which made for a slightly more interesting sandy descent than following the supercairns. I passed by Old and New Army Passes, and I talus-hopped my way to the summit of Cirque at 1:20pm. From there, I descended to the south towards the presumably namesake cirque. I traversed to the south side of the face to go around a band of snow. From there it was a sandy but steep descent to the boulder field below. I stayed in the drainage with hopes of eventually crossing the creek and finding the abandoned trail shown on the map at the trailhead. However, the marshes were like magnets, and since I was enjoying the open country and sparse forest too much, I gave up and made a beeline for the Cottonwood Lakes trail. I rejoined it about a mile and a half from the parking lot right at the first river crossing, and I was at my car just before 4:30pm. Total time: 10h45m
