Ascent Trip ReportNever thought I would be standing there again, five years later. This is a very short walk in shady modern park. Things have changed in China since 2012 - booking hotels now is a major headache - you never know if they won't reject you ("no foreigners allowed") until you show up at the front desk, even if you booked online on English website and received their confirmation. Many Chinese hotels now must use the nation-wide computer registration system that only recognizes mainland-issued IDs (shenfenzheng) - meaning that even Hong Kong residents who are technically Chinese citizens won't be accepted. But certain things are still the same though - e.g. you can buy a good tea at local farm market for cheap. People still stare at you on the street or exclaim to their small children: "Look! Laoway!"
