Ascent Trip ReportAscended Hi-Cannon trail to the Cannon summit, then took a detour over the east peak to see the cliff close up. Then on over the Cannon Balls to Kinsman Pond in the Kinsman Ridge Trail. This trail is a beast very steep, rocky, and wild. Stopped at the pond to look up at our destination then started in up to North Kinsman. The boulder that is the true summit is right on the trail and didn't require searching for, just around the corner before the lookout spot. The trail from there to South Kinsman was easier going but I was starting to feel the miles at this point. Don't be fooled by the false summit on the south peak! Keep going past the clearing with the small cairn another few hundred yards to the true high point. The GPS topo map I was using has the false summit marked at the top, but it is visibly lower than the true summit where the famous throne cairn rests. I wonder how many people are fooled by this and only make it 99% of the way up. Took the Fishin' Jimmy trail down past Lonesome Lake, then we took the Lonesome Lake trail the rest of the way back to the parking lot. Broke personal records for distance, time, and vertical gain on a single day hike. A great way to cap off the 2017 summer hiking season.
