Ascent of Crater Mountain on 2017-09-23
|Date:||Saturday, September 23, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||9172 ft / 2795 m|
Ascent Trip ReportWent from the east, same track as Bob Burd. This was not as bad as expected, I'd say we were able to walk on pine needles for 75% of the ascent. Those stopped the sand from sliding in the very steep uphill. When we couldn't find pine needles the going was much tougher.
The summit area is really interesting, very flat with a few small rock piles (100 feet or so). On descent we went straight down the sand, avoiding the pine needles. That was great fun, super fast and easy way down.
