Ascent Trip ReportMy 11 year old son and I planned to do this as a overnight backpack, camping in the meadows at 7500'. Unfortunately, bad weather was due to roll in, dumping snow on Sacajawea on our planned summit day. We decided to take a shot at a day hike instead.
All went well until we hit the steep Thorp Creek trail. We hit 7400' after 5 miles, and my son wanted to turn around. He didn't think he could ascend another 2500'. So, we had lunch, took in the views, and headed down.
It was his longest outing yet, at just over 10 miles. He now wants to do steeper hikes closer to home so he can come back and get this one. This is a beautiful corner of the country...I won't mind returning. |
