Blue Bell Knoll 11,317 ft, Wayne County Highpoint.
Above the towns of Loa and Bicknell, on the Boulder Top high plateau. There were already Golden Quakies above 10,000 ft. on the road to Boulder Top. The dirt road doesn't get too bad until the last 3 miles where you have to go from the 10,500 ft step to the 11,000 ft plateau. Once on the high plain, the road is low angle but very rocky. Drove to just abeam the highpoint to a new large brown metal sign: "Boulder Mtn Highest Point. Bluebell Knoll Elevation 11,317". Park off the road here. Then make your way up the mole-hill.
Blue Bell Knoll is on the far edge of the mound which provides a nice view of the vast plateau and Raft Lake below. Though the highpoint itself is kind of hidden in the trees.. in fact.. I think the highpoint is actually the base of one of the trees.. but let's just call it the cairn built up with the highpoint register tucked in it =) Look for the Benchmark Spike on a rock a few feet away.
Now off to Fish Lake to camp at 9,000 ft! |
