Ascent Trip ReportHiked the Franconia Ridge line, starting at 6:34 and finishing around 1:20. Took the Flume Slide trail up from the liberty springs trailhead, finishing up going down the old bridal path to the Franconia Notch camp ground where we were staying. The Flume slide wasn't nearly as treacherous as people had made it out to be. According to the ranger, the area had gotten some rain in the last couple days, but it wasn't as bad as the Maccomb slide the Adks, just pretty steep. Once at the top of the slide trail, we went along the ridge line: Flume > Liberty > Little Haystack > Lincoln > Lafayette. The views to the west were obscured by clouds at the first two peaks but cleared up by the time we got to the exposed area of the ridge line at little haystack. The views from Little Haystack on were spectacular, and the trail was as busy as would be expected on a nice Saturday. We saw a glider plane towed up and dropped off over us while one top of lafayette. Top a quick stop in to check out the Greenleaf hut on the old bridal path, worth the visit. It was awesome to get to hike several miles of the Appalachain trail along the ridge. |
