Ascent Trip Report

A sandy road walk with a bushwhack ..... 2.5 miles, 190' gain, 1:15 hours RT.

From I-131, exit 139 (west of Big Rapids) we went west on #20 for 3.1 miles to left turn onto an unsigned sandy road on the left (immedidiately after a right bend, Delorme names it Lynn Road). We drove LYnn for 200 yds and parked, ahead was heavily rutted and not for our Caravan.

I walked this sandy road southwest for .5 miles to where it crests at a left bend (43.67938,-85.57290) - the start of my bushwhack.
I bushwhacked east 450 yds to a sandy track (43.67935,-85.56889) going my way, which I followed for 300 yds (the track here bends left northerly at 43.67975,-85.56581), then left the track and bushwhacked a southeast line 600 yds to the all wooded HP - fairly obvious, my GPS 43.67740,-85.56098.
The woods are extremely open with little underbrush or downfall to speak-of - very easy going.
I backtracked to the TH in 25 minutes.

Before leaving this area we drove west on #20 for .25 miles to the gated road on the left (tower is across #20) and visited Area 2 of the Newaygo COHP (10 minute RT) all as per Bob Schwab's TR.
