Ascent Trip ReportHalfway between Leadville and Buena Vista on US24 turn west onto CO 82 and continue on thru the village of Twin Lakes (SPEEDTRAP SPEEDTRAP SPEEDTRAP). Just past mile marker 75 observe a utility line overhead crossing CO 82. Look left and observe a red barn and windmill. Slow down and 100 yards or so later turn right into dirt lane. There is a small sign at the lane entrance: Black Cloud Trail Head. Parking is available immediately on both sides of the lane. Walk to the east sid e of the lane and observe a few feet up a tree trunk a sign that says and points Trail. Get on this graded trail and follow it all the way to the top of the ridge. To the right is Mt Cosgriff and to the left is South Elbert.
There are two stream crossings at a mile or so up from the TH. After the crossings there is a 100 yard stretch of small downed aspens (from a microburst, perhaps).
This is the only stretch where the trail might be hard to follow. The trail itself switches itself frequently upslope alternating between easy and moderate grade.
